Psychotherapy
with Jacqueline Swensen, Ph.D.
in New York City
Whether your symptoms are anxiety, depression, or
some pattern of behavior that needs to be changed, psychotherapy can help you to address these
problems. Group therapy sessions are available at
Dr. Swensen’s West 57th Street office, while individual, marriage counseling or couples therapy may be
face-to-face or by telephone. I invite you to call me
today at 212-230-1881. No charge for initial consultation.
Benefits of Psychotherapy
We may live in adult bodies and behave like adults, but inside most of us is a child who did not get enough of something. Few people grew up in a family where they got everything they needed. Most of us were shortchanged in at least one of these areas: love, affection, security, encouragement, or kindness. Or we may have been exposed to criticism, punishment, neglect, disapproval, or pressure to achieve.
Growing up with too few positives or too many negatives affects how your life unfolds. Psychoanalysis may help one to better understand early experiences and the effects they have in adult life.
What You Can Expect From Therapy
I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups, including people of all religious, spiritual, and gender orientations. I do not judge or criticize, but help my clients talk freely as a way to begin having the life they truly want in love, work, and play.
Instead of focusing only on symptoms, we work to uncover their causes to get to the root of the difficulties, make permanent changes, and achieve real results in life.
Group Psychotherapy
Does the recession leave you wondering if you can afford to get the help you need? Have you considered group therapy? Here are some
of the benefits:
• More affordable than individual therapy
• Powerful therapeutic environment for understanding
and changing patterns of behavior
• Offers the lonely or isolated person the opportunity to
deal with obstacles that have hindered past relationships
• Can serve as a dynamic complement to individual therapy
Therapy Via Telephone
Some clients have asked me to provide therapy via telephone; some want to continue our work after they have moved away. Others travel a great deal and use this option when they are on the road. Engaging with a therapist who listens and responds the way you need is more important than meeting face-to-face.
